WNBA makes historic announcement involving Indiana Fever star

The WNBA has seen several all-time records broken this season. Some of them were by Kelsey Mitchell, who has showcased her elite soring skills all campaign long. The league made a historic announcement on Thursday that involves the Indiana Fever guard and the Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson.

Mitchell is coming off another strong performance on Tuesday against the Minnesota Lynx. She finished with 20 points, three rebounds and four assists in Indiana’s 96-77 win. The team quickly bounced back from a loss to the Washington Mystics two days earlier and improved its record to 28-15 for the season.

Mitchell extended her streak of consecutive 20-plus point regular-season games to 28. She also owns the record for most consecutive such games in a single season.

Mitchell and Wilson are the first players in WNBA history to score 1,000-plus points each in the same season. The league announced it on Instagram, expressing its pride for the two stars.

“Kelsey Mitchell and A’ja Wilson are the first players to eclipse 1,000 PTS in the SAME szn We couldn’t let the regular season end tonight without acknowledging the greatness they displayed scoring the rock,” the WNBA wrote.

The Fever and Aces have secured playoff spots, but Thursday’s games will determine their final seedings. Mitchell and Co. will once again face the Lynx and visit them at Target Center. Wilson and her teammates, on the other hand, will take on the Phoenix Mercury to wrap up their regular-season schedule.

Indiana is currently fifth in the standings. while Las Vegas is third with a 30-13 record. Both franchises were considered title favorites entering the season and Mitchell and Wilson have been one of the biggest reasons for their teams’ success. They have contributed consistently night in and night out, especially on the offensive end.
