Case Keenum stole the show in Week 3, leading the Chicago Bears to a 27-7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. But that doesn’t guarantee he’ll start against the New York Jets in Week 4.
On the Bears’ initial depth chart, Tyson Bagent was listed as QB2. He dealt with a concussion for most of the lead up to Monday Night Football, leading Chicago to go with Keenum as the starter. But now, Bagent has been cleared and is returning to practice.
That leaves the Bears’ quarterback situation a bit unknown. They’ll want to leave the Jets in the dark as long as possible. But at least on Tuesday, either quarterback has a chance to start in Week 4.
While that will inevitable leading to a hotly contested battle, Keenum isn’t showing any animosity. Ultimately, he knows both quarterbacks are competing for the same team.

It may seem a bit jarring to bench Keenum, seeing as he completed 24-of-34 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns. But the veteran is aware of what Bagent bring to the field as well. Keenum’s biggest priority is simply the Bears winning football games, via Kevin Fishbain and Dan Wiederer of the Athletic.
“I love Tyson, man,” Keenum said. “I’ve made that pretty clear how I feel about him and the type of player he is. To have him back in the building, even though it was late in the week, meant a lot. Having him on the sideline.
“He’s become a very close friend and somebody who helped me prepare and kept me honest,” he continued. “He’s one of the smartest quarterbacks I’ve ever played with. So, who knows how this week will go? I think we’ll both be ready for anything.”
Who ends up starting in Week 4 will depend on the week of practice. The coaching staff will make their decision based on which option they believe gives the franchise their best chance of success.
Both quarterbacks will stay ready for if their name is called. But if not, they seem prepared to support their fellow backup on their quest for victory.
