The Chicago Bears are set to showcase their newest addition on “Monday Night Football” in Week 8 when they travel to play the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

The Bears’ trade with the Tennessee Titans for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons got the attention of one player in particular.

During his news conference with reporters on Thursday, Seahawks offensive guard Quenton Nelson, who was traded from the Indianapolis Colts to Seattle this week, joked that he couldn’t get away from Simmons.

“I was like, ‘Man, can’t get away from this guy,’” Nelson said, via video posted by Ari Meirov of the 33rd Team.

The two battled against each other when they were in the AFC South. They won’t play against each other as often in different divisions in the NFC, but they’ll face off in a big game on Monday night in their debuts for new teams.

Nelson and Simmons most recently played each other on Oct. 18. Simmons earned six tackles, two sacks, and two tackles for loss in the Titans’ 26-20 win over the Colts.

Given the issues with the Colts, it was expected for Nelson to be on the trade block. The trade for Simmons was a shock.

Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi said it was a tough decision to trade Simmons.

“My respect and admiration for him is probably more than any player I’ve been around. … These are tough decisions, and at no point any time since I’ve been here did we every try to trade Jeffery Simmons – we’ve gotten a lot of phone calls, but it never really crossed my mind,” Borgonzi said, via the Titans’ website.

“I got a phone call late last night from a person I have known for a while, Ryan Poles, GM with the Bears, and he’s really the only person that came out and said: Would you accept this?”

The Bears are getting an elite defender in Simmons. Nelson’s comments prove that the defensive tackle can put fear in the heart of quality offensive linemen in the league.

The trade could start to pay off as soon as Monday night.
