There was some uproar when the Chicago Bears let Nahshon Wright walk in free agency. After all, he was a Pro Bowler in his lone season with the Bears, putting up 11 passes defended and five interceptions.
However, after signing a one-year deal with the New York Jets, the cornerback has been an afterthought. He has appeared in just three games, making a single tackle. Oftentimes, the Jets have made Wright a gameday inactive.
New York does rank fifth in pass defense, allowing 187.7 yards per game. Wright’s services haven’t really been needed. But obviously, that isn’t what the cornerback is looking for.
At 2-5, the Jets are poised to sell come trade deadline. And Wright is looking join those leaving the franchise.

Wright hasn’t formally requested from the Jets. However, he has made it clear to the team how he feels, via Rich Cimini of ESPN. Those feelings shouldn’t come as much of a shock to the franchise based on the cornerback’s current playing time.
“CB Nahshon Wright tells ESPN that he’s “definitely frustrated” by having no role on defense,” Breer wrote. “Asked if he has requested a trade, he said, “Not formally…(But) I’ve expressed my feelings (to the team).”
In terms of a reunion, the Bears are in need of a cornerback. Jaylon Johnson has struggled immensely while Tyrique Stevenson has battled both injuries and benchings. At the very least, Wright knows Chicago’s system.
But the cornerback signed just a $3.5 million contract in free agency. If the Bears really wanted him back, they likely could’ve retained him before he bolted for the Jets.
Even if it isn’t Chicago, Wright seems highly likely to be dealt before the deadline. The Jets may not get much, but the corner is on an expiring contract. Nothing is better than something. Wherever he goes Wright will try to revert to his Bears form.
