Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham offered some sound advice to tall women who may feel insecure about their height.
Cunningham attended the F1 United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, on Sunday to wave the checkered flag. During the event, she spoke with social media influencer Gabby Gonzalez. In the interview, Gonzalez asked Cunningham what message she had for tall girls.
The 30-year-old league veteran offered a simple but important recommendation for young girls, saying that they should fully embrace it instead of hiding it.
“My message never changes because this is why we are the way we are: simply be you,” Cunningham said. “And like the things that are maybe like an insecurity or that you don’t want, embrace those because that is going to be your biggest superpower.”
Cunningham has dealt with this personal issue her entire life, and she has used it to her advantage to become one of the notable names in the WNBA.
The former Missouri standout doubled down on welcoming this physical trait, drawing on her own experience from years ago.
“And so I just think it could have been really easy back in the day to kind of bend down for photos or not embrace the height,” Cunningham added. “But you know, whatever makes us different, like, that’s why God made us that way, so embrace it.”
This message from Cunningham resonates with fans who see her as a role model and feel different from the norm.
