Chicago Bears in hunt to bring back 2 players for Super Bowl push

The impact of the trade for Jeffery Simmons was seen immediately, as the defensive end powered the Chicago Bears defense in a 34-17 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

The Bears gave up two first-round picks and a fourth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans for Simmons. Given what Chicago gave up for Simmons, it’s Super Bowl or bust for general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Ben Johnson.

Ian Rapoport of ESPN believes the Bears are still in the hunt for two defenders. Chicago needs help in the secondary and could add another edge rusher. He’s not sure if the Los Angeles Chargers will make Khalil Mack available (though the Bears have interest), as general manager Joe Hortiz likes how Mack is coaching up the young defense despite the team’s 0-7 record.

Rapoport also noted that it’s possible the Bears try to trade with the New York Jets for Nahshon Wright, who created 10 turnovers for Chicago last year.

“Among their needs, they have a need on the edge, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the team had some secondary help as well,” Rapoport said. “Khalil Mack is a name that obviously discussed going back to Chicago. The problem with that is Joe Hortiz, the general manager for the Chargers, has shown no indication that he wants to sell at all.

“They like how Khalil Mack has helped the young edges and helped the locker room. They do not want to give up on the season. The other interesting one is Nahshon Wright. I mean, he was with the Bears last year, is with the Jets now…is really not playing. Could that be a name to watch as well, just for some depth? I do not believe Ryan Poles is done.”

Wright isn’t getting much playing time with the Jets after signing a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the team in March. He isn’t the best coverage corner, but he fits with Dennis Allen’s defense and could be a key piece of the depth for the struggling secondary.
