The Chicago Bears are 6-2 and carrying plenty of momentum as they enter the middle part of the season. After this upcoming game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago can move to 7-2 before the bye week.
This past Monday was one of the best wins in the Ben Johnson era. The Bears traveled to Seattle to take on the defending champs and won in blowout fashion, 34-17. Things are clicking on all cylinders for this group, and it’s obvious on tape.
However, today they were hit with a massive injury blow. Left tackle Braxton Jones will miss the rest of the season, as reported by Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs. Jones was on IR with a right knee injury and ended up having season-ending surgery on that knee yesterday.
#Bears LT Braxton Jones will not return from IR this season. He underwent right knee surgery on Tuesday.

During Week 3, Jones suffered a partially torn patellar tendon. The plan was for him to rehab the injury and potentially return later in the season. That plan is now off the table, as Jones will miss the rest of the season.
“His play was steady,” offensive line coach Dan Roushar said. “I thought what we were doing with him, trying to keep him fresh with a little rotation in there, was working. He was playing better than, certainly, the exposure we had last year to him.”

This is a brutal blow for the Chicago Bears as they begin their Super Bowl push. Since getting Caleb Williams back, the Bears have looked like the best team in football and were planning to welcome their starting left tackle back into the lineup at some point.
Braxton Jones signed a one-year deal in the offseason and will become an unrestricted free agent next spring. The chances are high that we’ve seen the last of Jones in a Bears uniform. The decision for Jones to have the injury repaired is likely a solid one. No sense in taking a chance during a contract year and potentially damaging it even more.
The offensive line has been great without Jones; however, this will certainly test the depth of the group if another injury occurs.
With the trade deadline looming, look for GM Ryan Poles to make some more moves. It’s unlikely that he goes after another offensive lineman, even after this news, but it’s safe to say you can expect the unexpected with this front office.
