Chicago White Sox’s Game 2 starter doesn’t hold back on playoff opportunity

The Chicago White Sox are now just one game away from advancing to the American League Division Series. As they try to take down the Houston Astros, the franchise will be turning to right-hander Sean Burke on the mound.

Burke, like most players on this year’s White Sox, will be making his playoff debut. His work during the regular season will certainly give Chicago some confidence though. Over his 32 games, including 27 starts, the righty put up a 3.34 ERA and a 185/62 K/BB ratio.

The ERA mark is a new career-high mark for Burke in seasons with five+ games played. As were his 185 strikeouts, which led the White Sox. While the playoffs breed and entirely different beast, the franchise will remain confident behind Burke.

After using five pitchers in Game 1, the White Sox will hope their starter can give them some quality innings. For Burke, it’s all he has been focused on.

The White Sox entered the playoffs with a chip on their shoulder, as they were never expected to be there in the first place. It’s all Burke can focus on. There are no other distractions taking him away from White Sox baseball, via James Fegan of the Chicago Sun-Times.

“This is my life,” Burke said. “No family—no girl, no kids. This is all I do.”

Chicago will need a high level of focus from Burke as he prepares for his start. Earning a 6-3 victory in game one has led to plenty of optimism from the White Sox. But if they were to lose Game 2, they would be on the brink of being eliminated. Chicago knows they can’t rest on their laurels.

With Burke’s mindset, they at least see their starting pitcher is locked in. The only thing on the right-hander’s mind is leading the White Sox to victory.
