The Chicago Bears will face a grueling test in November as they try to solidify their position in the NFC North. They will face several tough opponents in the second half of the season after a promising start to the 2026 campaign, and will be put to the test in terms of defense, offense, and handling pressure.
These three teams bring different strengths to the table and will surely test Chicago in different ways, especially the defense. Until the winter months arrive and the season reaches its peak, Caleb Williams and his offense will be key to the Bears. But a successful November will also depend on a strong defensive performance.
Chicago returns to Soldier Field for Sunday Night Football against a Tampa Bay team building momentum through consecutive victories over Carolina and Atlanta. The Buccaneers arrive with an increasingly formidable rushing attack.
Tampa Bay recently amassed 324 rushing yards against Atlanta without completing a pass. Bucky Irving and Kenny Gainwell both established personal rushing records, presenting Chicago’s defensive front with a demanding physical challenge.
Caleb Williams threw for 308 yards and two touchdowns against New England, providing another example of the offense’s potential this season. Chicago’s highly ranked rushing defense, strengthened by Jeffery Simmons, faces an important examination. Those factors also shape Chicago Bears game lines heading into a matchup that could hinge on whether the Bears can slow Tampa Bay’s rushing attack.
A prime-time victory would reinforce Chicago’s NFC North ambitions. However, containing Tampa Bay’s ground attack and preventing extended possessions will be essential to establishing control.
Containing Tampa Bay’s explosive plays would also demonstrate Chicago’s readiness for the tougher divisional battles ahead.
Chicago will use their Week 10 bye to recharge physically and assess their second-half push for a playoff berth. A grueling schedule of late September and early October games will finally come to an end for the Bears.
The bye gives Chicago’s coaching staff, led by Ben Johnson, time to review the offense, including third-down efficiency and red-zone execution, and identify areas that need to improve against stronger opponents.
Football insights can also provide context for defensive trends, while Chicago can use the bye to review its tackling, run assignments, and ability to prevent big plays. It will also give key players time to recover from injuries or to rest from the wear and tear of the early part of the season.
With New Orleans and Detroit looming on the horizon, the Bears need to go into their bye week and define their focus for the remainder of the season in order to address some weaknesses before they become disasters down the road.
After the bye week the Bears host the New Orleans Saints at Soldier Field. The Bears defeated the Saints last year 26-14.
The Saints will look to post a more disciplined performance in this game. But the Bears are playing at home and will have had an extra week to prepare for this contest.
Also worth watching is the continued evolution of Bears’ defensive coordinator Dennis Allen and how he can apply his prior experience as the Saints’ DC to counter their offense and players.
Getting D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai involved in the offense in a physical fashion is key in easing the workload on Caleb Williams and limiting the Saints to as few possessions as possible. A convincing win here will get the Bears ready for their Thanksgiving Day showdown against the Detroit Lions.
Thanksgiving means another installment of the rivalry between the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions. Detroit has won the recent meetings, including a 52–21 victory over Chicago at Ford Field in Week 2 last season on September 14, 2025.
Jared Goff has gotten off to a great start to the season, throwing 15 touchdowns against one interception. Williams, the Bears’ signal caller, has shown improved accuracy while leading Chicago’s offense.
Of course, there is much more to this Lions offense than Goff. The Bears must find a way to stop big plays, pressure Goff to hurried decisions and stop the run to control the clock and keep Lions from being able to sustain long drives.
Chicago holds an 11–9 edge in Thanksgiving meetings with Detroit and will look to improve that record against its division rival. Losing here would place significant pressure on the team in the early stages of December.
Caleb Williams enters November with greater confidence and improved accuracy. His development will face meaningful scrutiny against experienced quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Jared Goff, both capable of exploiting defensive mistakes and controlling difficult matchups.
Williams doesn’t need to outperform either quarterback statistically. Protecting possession, recognizing defensive adjustments, and sustaining drives will matter more than producing spectacular individual numbers.
Chicago’s defense faces equally demanding assignments. Tampa Bay’s rushing combination, New Orleans’ physical approach, and Detroit’s explosive Jahmyr Gibbs will challenge the Bears’ ability to control the line of scrimmage.
Jeffery Simmons provides a disruptive interior presence, helping linebackers attack rushing lanes and pressure opposing quarterbacks. If Chicago consistently limits ground production, Williams should receive more manageable offensive opportunities. Defensive discipline could ultimately determine the team’s November trajectory.
Chicago’s upcoming matchups will reveal whether its promising start reflects genuine progress. Tampa Bay tests defensive physicality, while the Week 10 bye provides valuable time to regroup. New Orleans then demands discipline before Detroit presents a significant divisional challenge.
Williams must continue developing as a dependable offensive leader, supported by effective rushing production and consistent defensive performances. The Bears possess encouraging foundations, but their ability to execute against contrasting opponents will determine whether they strengthen their NFC North position and build momentum toward the postseason.
