No one can deny Caitlin Clark’s immense impact on the WNBA since she joined the league.
Drafted as the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever in 2024, the 6-foot guard has since elevated the league in more ways than one. Her exhilarating style of play has built a massive following for the league, resulting in a sharp increase in the WNBA’s revenue. In fact, many have credited Clark with playing a pivotal role, albeit indirectly, in establishing a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
This is exactly why NFL legend Boomer Esiason has raised his concerns about Clark’s current status in the WNBA. So much so that the retired quarterback has urged the 24-year-old to leave the U.S. entirely.

Clark was involved in a couple of controversial incidents on Wednesday as the Fever suffered a 111-109 loss to the Phoenix Mercury. She was fouled on a three-point attempt, leading to a back injury for the two-time All-Star. The Fever eventually ruled her out for the rest of the contest.
Another Clark incident went viral in the game. This is after Mercury star Alyssa Thomas drove her fist into the Fever star’s throat as Clark lay on the floor. The WNBA reviewed the incident and issued a Flagrant 2 foul on Thomas, along with a one-game suspension.
Esiason has seen enough to make up his mind about Clark’s future in the league.
“If I were Caitlin Clark, I would seriously consider going to play overseas somewhere and get the royal treatment and get real money,” the 65-year-old said on the “Boomer & Gio” show on Thursday. “… I know Caitlin makes a ton of money off the court in terms of endorsements, and rightfully so.”
“If I were Caitlin Clark, I would seriously consider going to play overseas somewhere and get the royal treatment…she’s a straight white basketball player. And she is not being treated with any sort of respect” – Boomer Esiason pic.twitter.com/zeFRdOMLVn

The former NFL MVP believes that “there is a petty, petty jealousy” on Clark among her WNBA colleagues. “She is not being treated with any sort of respect whatsoever,” he added.
For what it’s worth, Clark is still under contract with the Fever through 2027. Unless she signs a contract extension, she will be an unrestricted free agent in 2028.
