Bears should stop wasting time and add this player for Caleb Williams

Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears seem to be pretty content with their roster heading into the 2026 NFL campaign, and while they definitely boast an impressive group, there is no question that they could use some improvement on both sides of the ball.

The Bears have some glaring holes at numerous positions, and while everyone seems to be focused on their lack of a pass rush, they have issues elsewhere, too.

One area in which Chicago could have some problems this coming fall is at wide receiver. The Bears subtracted both D.J. Moore and Olamide Zaccheaus this offseason, replacing them with Kalif Raymond and third-round rookie Zavion Thomas.

Raymond finished with under 300 yards each of the last two years, and while Thomas has been impressive throughout the team’s offseason program, he was viewed by many as a reach on Day 2 of the NFL Draft.

To make matters worse, top receiver Rome Odunze stated that he doesn’t think he will ever be the same due to the foot issues he dealt with last season. So why is Chicago not adding another wide receiver for Caleb Williams?

Chicago Bears should reunite with Keenan Allen

There are still several receivers available in free agency, and one option in particular stands out: old friend Keenan Allen.

Allen spent the 2024 campaign with the Bears, catching 70 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games. He then returned to the Los Angeles Chargers, last season, where he snared 81 balls for 777 yards and four scores.

Is Allen the same Pro Bowl receiver from his younger days? No, but he is still productive, and there is no doubt he would provide Williams with a much-needed veteran playmaker.

For some reason, Chicago does not seem interested in Allen or any of the other intriguing wide outs still out on the open market. The Bears seem comfortable with their current setup at the position, which could end up being a grave mistake.

The trio of Odunze, Luther Burden III and Thomas could be explosive, but it could also be disastrous, especially if Odunze and Burden — the latter of whom was also banged up last year — have trouble staying healthy.

Allen might be waiting to sign back with the Chargers, but Chicago should at least place a call to the 34-year-old to see if he would be interested in returning to the Windy City.
