Chicago White Sox advised approach to MLB trade deadline revealed

Prior to the start of the 2026 MLB season, no one thought that the Chicago White Sox were going be very good. After all, they had lost over 100 games in each of the previous three seasons. In 2024, they set the Major League record with 121 losses in a single season.

All fans hoped for was a step forward, signs that, someday, the White Sox could be a competitive baseball team again. And to their surprise, they not only got that, but they are watching a team that currently is tied for first place in the American League Central Division.

Chicago White Sox urged to take a conservative approach to the MLB trade deadline

Last week, ESPN had the White Sox slotted in the top-ten of their MLB power rankings. After a rough week, though, they have now been dropped down to 12th:

“The White Sox’s feel-good first half teetered a bit when they dropped five of six during a tough road trip against the Yankees and Tigers. While the young Sox remain well-positioned in the soft AL Central, it’s too soon to know if they’ll be in position to add at the deadline.

“One thing that has marked this Chicago squad has been the number of successful promotions of internally developed prospects they’ve seen this season. And seemingly, the younger the White Sox have gotten, the better they’ve played. As long as this keeps up, a conservative deadline approach might end up being the best bet for the short and long term.”

As one can see, the explanation for the ranking is actually filled with praise for Chicago’s young talent and the prospects they are still developing.

Due to these things, the White Sox are advised to take a conservative approach at the MLB trade deadline. Instead of trading prospects that can help them both now and in the future, they should try to acquire players whose price tags are not as steep.
