Caleb Williams in impressive tier ahead of 2026 NFL season

We are just a few weeks away until the Chicago Bears open up training camp in Lake Forest. Chicago will host training camp over a month’s span and will even have a few joint practices during that time.

While we continue to count down the days until training camp begins, there are some interesting storylines to follow with the team.  Chicago is coming off a 2025 season in which they won the NFC North for the first time since 2018 and won a playoff game for the first time since the 2010 season.

But now going into 2026, the Bears know they need to get better and that could be on the shoulders of quarterback Caleb Williams. Going into his third year, his second under Ben Johnson, it’s crucial that Williams takes the next step in his development. He showed flashes of what he can be last season but there are areas he needs to improve in.

The Bears are going to do their best to help Williams take that next step. And if he does, he could be elevated to the top of the tiers among NFL quarterbacks.

Caleb Williams lands in impressive QB tier list

CBS Sports released a quarterback tiers list, ranking the players at the position going into the 2026 season. For Williams, he landed on the “borderline stars” tier along with Jalen Hurts, Bo Nix, Jayden Daniels, Sam Darnold, Jared Goff, Brock Purdy, Jordan Love, Dak Prescott, Justin Herbert, Drake Maye and Trevor Lawrence.

Here is what CBS Sports had to say about Williams on the list:

Williams’ flair for the dramatics included a game-winning touchdown against the rival Packers in the NFC wild-card round. He’ll join NFL (and Chicago/Indiana?) royalty if he can lead the Bears to the franchise’s second Super Bowl title. More consistent play will be needed if that is going to come to fruition.

It’s hard to argue against the ranking for Williams. He’s shown some things that have you believing he can be a star quarterback in this league. Now, it’s just about consistency and improving to get to that star level.

A big season in 2026 will go a long way in doing that.
