The Chicago Bears were expected to add some help for the secondary amid multiple injuries at the safety and cornerback positions.
The Bears are still waiting on nickelback Kyler Gordon to return from a soft-tissue injury. On Monday, Chicago had even worse news for the secondary when Coby Bryant suffered a hyperextended knee. He’s expected to miss eight to 10 weeks. Elijah Hicks has been out with a shin injury.
Per a post by Aurora Sports Group, a sports agency, the Bears signed defensive back Marlen Sewell.
“Marlen Sewell to the Chicago Bears!” the group posted on Instagram.

Sewell signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Vanderbilt this summer. The Chiefs waived him in June before bringing back L’Jarius Sneed to the 90-man roster.
Sewell spent five seasons with the Commodores. He recorded 102 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.
Sewell will give the Bears some depth in the secondary until Bryant and Hicks return.
Bryant hopes to come back stronger after the injury.
“Thank you for all the prayers & love! God makes no mistakes & I’ll be back stronger,” Bryant posted on X. “Can’t wait to be back out there with my brothers & have a great season! Much love & (Bear Down).”
