The pitching woes for the Chicago Cubs struck again on Tuesday night in Milwaukee. Chicago held a lead in a game against the Brewers for the fourth time in the last six meetings between the two teams spanning over 10 days, and they once blew the lead and lost the game.
After the Cubs grabbed a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning, they turned to Jacob Webb to seal the game and get a big win in Milwaukee.
While Webb got the first two batters out, he allowed a pinch-hit single to Christian Yelich and then watched Jackson Chourio tie the game with a long two-run home run. Milwaukee then walked it off in the 10th inning to secure the win.
It was heartbreak again for the Cubs as they watched Milwaukee reach 90 wins on the year, extend the lead in the NL Central and beat the Cubs for the fourth time in the past six games, all come back wins. After the game, Webb got brutally honest about his performance.

The Cubs bullpen has been a struggle all season long and more recently, it’s rearing its ugly head again. For manager Craig Counsell, all he can do is just trust his guys as this is the bullpen that Jed Hoyer built.
But for Webb, he knows he has to do better.
“I’m tired of letting the team down, to be completely honest,” Webb said after the game. “It’s pretty tough to watch every time I give up a homer. … It’s piss poor.”
The Cubs bullpen as a whole can be considered ‘piss poor’ lately. Since mid-August, the Cubs bullpen has given up 16 home runs and is 23rd in ERA. They have been hit by injuries but inconsistent performances even from trade deadline pickups have hurt them.
Counsell can only pitch who he has available to him.
“We made a bad pitch with a man on base,” Counsell said of Chourio’s home run. “It’s the one thing that can’t happen there. Unfortunately, it happened.
“We have eight guys down there. Those are the guys we’re going to rely on. We have to figure it out.”
If the Cubs want any success at all in the postseason, they need to figure out a way to fix these bullpen issues.
