Case Keenum delivered a strong performance on Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles. The coaching staff named the veteran Chicago Bears quarterback the starter as Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent both missed the game due to a hamstring injury and concussion symptoms, respectively. The 38-year-old impressed analysts, fans and offensive coordinator Press Taylor, who spoke highly of him.

Keenum completed 24-of 34 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns. He showed no signs of rust despite starting his first NFL game since 2023. He received a lot of praise from his teammates and the coaching staff after the 27-7 win.

Bagent is reportedly available for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets. Taylor and head coach Ben Johnson will need to decide which between the two backups will be the QB1.

Chicago Bears: Press Taylor shares how Case Keenum impressed him

Taylor talked about what Keenum did well versus the Eagles. He highlighted his preparedness and how he made the right plays throughout the matchup.

“He knew and he trusted where his guys were going to be,” Taylor said. “There was pressure, but the ball came out early to the right spot/ A lot of it was just the mastery Case had of the game plan, the defense he was going against, trusting his guys around him to make those types of plays, and the guys delivered for him. That’s the big part.

“You’re throwing the ball with anticipation. You’re throwing the ball early and guys are where they’re supposed to be making those plays. You throw one early and the guy’s not quite there and it ends up skipping in front of the guy, that can be deflating a little bit as a quarterback. We were just kind of in a rhythm the other night where those plays are just kind of hitting and it’s easy to stick with it. You’re on schedule playing in manageable down and distances, the playbook kind of remains open for you being able to dig through everything.”

The Bears will pick the quarterback that will give them the best chance to pick up another win. Keenum’s emergence is a big boost to the team as it continues to wait for Williams’ return. The 2012 undrafted free agent has proven his worth and showed the football world that he can run the offense successfully.
