The Chicago White Sox weren’t expected to come close to the playoffs entering the 2026 season. But now, they’ve clinched their spot in the American League Division Series.
The White Sox did it in impressive fashion too, sweeping the Houston Astros in their three-game Wild Card Series. They’ll next face the Cleveland Guardians in a five-game series for the opportunity to compete for an AL pennant.
Against Houston, Chicago outscored their opponents 13-6. That’s a testament to their roaring offense and consistent pitching, led by the their bullpen, throughout. Now, they’ll see if the same strategy can prevail against Cleveland.
But before the ALDS begins, the White Sox are still relishing their victory. It’s the first the franchise has won a playoff series in 2025. Doing so in convincing fashion, the White Sox have now etched their name in the MLB playoff history books.

In Game 1, Munetaka Murakami hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning and Chicago didn’t look back from there. In Game 2, the White Sox jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one and rode that momentum to victory.

The fact it was a best-of-three series – adopted in 2022 – did help the White Sox’s chances of achieving this feat, it remains impressive nonetheless. In both games, they held leads of at least four at one point. They’ll look to pounce early on the Guardians in the same way.
Chicago did hold a 7-6 advantage over Cleveland during their regular season series. But now in the playoffs, the White Sox know it’s an entirely different ballgame.
Still, they’ve proven they can hold their own in the postseason. Leading every inning against the Guardians would lead their miraculous 2026 run to the American League Championship Series.
