The Chicago Bears traded with the Tennessee Titans for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick last week, giving up first-round picks in 2027 and 2028 along with a 2027 fourth-round pick.
While Chicago gave up a steep price for the best defensive tackle in the NFL, the Bears are still expected to swing at more help before the trade deadline on Nov. 10 to help the team make a Super Bowl push this season.
After all, the Bears are all-in to win the Super Bowl after trading for Simmons and before quarterback Caleb Williams is eligible to negotiate for a new contract.
Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Khalil Mack has been linked to the Bears by multiple NFL insiders both before and after the trade for Simmons. Despite having an 0-6 record at their bye, the Chargers were not actively shopping players for the trade deadline.
That might change following the Chargers’ 24-9 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The loss dropped the Chargers to 0-7. Los Angeles will host the Houston Texans in Week 9.

The Chargers could be more sober about where they stand before the trade deadline after another humbling loss on Sunday. Los Angeles signed Mack to a one-year, $18 million contract in March. Given their winless record, the Chargers should attempt to trade Mack and get something in return for the veteran pass-rusher in the midst of a losing season.
Mack spent four seasons with Chicago (2018-2021), earning All-Pro honors with the Bears two times.
Mack has 19 tackles and three sacks this season.
Chicago could use help on the edge and at cornerback to fill out the defense. The Bears offense, with Caleb Williams healthy, looks good enough to compete for the Super Bowl.
Chicago will see how much the defense has improved with Simmons when he makes his debut for the Bears on “Monday Night Football” against the Seattle Seahawks. Still, a player like Mack could better help the unit get stops and help mask issues in the secondary.
