Indiana Fever announce historic news after win against Tempo

The Indiana Fever made it four wins in a row on Tuesday night after a convincing 113-91 victory over the Toronto Tempo.

The Fever were coming off an impressive 85-75 road win against the Connecticut Sun on Saturday. They returned home to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Tuesday to host one of the new WNBA expansion teams this season. Indiana kept it going, improving to 9-5 after winning four straight.

Kelsey Mitchell led the scoring with 27 points on a highly efficient 9-of-11 from the field. Caitlin Clark dropped another awe-inspiring double-double with 21 points and 14 assists.

However, it was Sophie Cunningham who stole the spotlight with her best game of the season. The 6-foot-1 guard caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down six out of her seven attempts from deep. She finished with a season-high 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting, to go along with six rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes off the bench.

Cunningham, Clark and Mitchell already combined for 72 points between them. Aliyah Boston also scored in double digits, finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The scoring onslaught led to a historic development for the Fever. The team took to social media shortly after the final buzzer to announce the news.

This new record speaks volumes about how Indiana’s offense was clicking all night long. As a unit, they shot 52.2% overall on Tuesday night. They also made 13 three-pointers on a 43.3% clip.

The Fever closed out their Commissioner’s Cup title defense with four straight wins. It still isn’t enough, though, as they end the tournament with a 5-1 record.

It’s the undefeated New York Liberty, currently 5-0, who have secured the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. They have clinched a spot in the Commissioner’s Cup championship game.

As for the Fever, they will look to keep their winning streak going on Thursday. It will be a marquee matchup for Indiana as they welcome Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for another home game.
