Cameras catch Caitlin Clark’s gesture toward Flau’jae Johnson after Fever win

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever won their fourth consecutive game on Tuesday. They defeated the Seattle Storm 105-95 at Climate Pledge Arena, with the superstar guard torching the home team.

She recorded a team-high 32 points, four rebounds and seven assists. Clark was efficient from the field, knocking down 9-of-14 attempts, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. The 24-year-old caught fire in the third quarter, pouring in 18 points.

Kelsey Mitchell supplied 28 points, two rebounds and two assists, while Monique Billings posted a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Meanwhile, Natisha Hiedeman spearheaded Seattle’s attack by registering 33 points on 55.0% shooting, along with six rebounds and four assists. Rookie Flau’jae Johnson backed her with 16 points, but the team’s defense allowed Indiana to convert 33-of-64 field goals.

Cameras caught Clark and Johnson hugging after the game. However, what drew the attention of many fans was the three-time All-Star seemingly telling the rookie to keep her chin up despite the defeat. It was a heartwarming gesture from Clark as she acknowledged Johnson’s valiant effort.

They faced each other twice during their collegiate careers when they starred for Iowa and LSU, respectively. Clark and Johnson split their two meetings, with the Tigers capturing the 2023 national championship over Clark and Co. However, the Hawkeyes avenged the loss the following year by eliminating Johnson’s team in the Elite Eight.

Tuesday’s matchup was Indiana and Seattle’s last in the regular season this year. The Fever are in a good position to qualify for the playoffs, currently fifth in the standings with an 18-10 record. Johnson and the Storm, on the other hand, are at the bottom at 6-24.

Indiana will return to action on Friday when it takes on the Portland Fire at Moda Center at the Rose Quarter. Seattle’s next game is also on the same day against the Atlanta Dream.
