The biggest storyline in Major League Baseball will be where Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal ends up. With just a few more days until Monday’s trade deadline, there have been lots of rumors surrounding Skubal. The latest suggests the Chicago Cubs could be involved now.
With Chicago needing help on the pitching side, both in the rotation and bullpen, they should have plenty of options. That includes the big fish of Skubal.
After insiders Ken Rosenthal and Jeff Passan threw some water on the fire, saying the Cubs likely won’t be after Skubal, a local reporter is suggesting the opposite.

As mentioned above, the thought the past few days was that the Cubs would be out on someone like Skubal due to the price. But now, the pending free agent appears to have some serious interest from the Cubs.
Patrick Mooney of The Athletic wrote on the Cubs ahead of the trade deadline and mentioned how they are now considering Skubal as a target:
In a wide-ranging search for pitching reinforcements, the Chicago Cubs are considering Tarik Skubal as their blockbuster option ahead of Monday’s trade deadline, according to several baseball officials who were granted anonymity to candidly discuss a still-developing market.
It’s a high risk, high reward type of move for the Cubs if they pursue Skubal. With Matthew Boyd’s emergence, they could look to add a big arm for a good 1-2 punch for the postseason.
However, would they risk the future for a rental on Skubal? Chicago also needs help in the bullpen as evident by Wednesday’s heartbreaking loss in extra innings where they led by two runs. Fixing the bullpen might feel like the smarter option at this stage. But could they pull off both?
