However, Crow-Armstrong’s surge at the plate is hardly a new development. Since the All-Star break, he is tied for the MLB lead with 11 home runs, tied for third with 27 RBI, and ranks sixth among qualified hitters with a .974 OPS. Five of those 11 home runs have come this week alone, including three leadoff homers after he opened Friday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners by going deep.

Thanks to three leadoff home runs over his last four games, Crow-Armstrong now has seven on the season, moving him into a tie for the third-most in a single season in Cubs history. The last Chicago player to reach that mark was Dexter Fowler in 2016. Only Rick Monday, who hit eight leadoff homers in 1976, and Alfonso Soriano, who clubbed 12 in 2007, have more.
Furthermore, Crow-Armstrong’s leadoff blast against the Mariners on Friday gave him 32 home runs on the season, setting a new career high. With more than a month remaining on the schedule, reaching the 40-homer mark is certainly within reach, especially if he can maintain his current pace or put together another week like this one. Only nine players in Cubs history have reached 40 home runs in a single season, so joining that exclusive group would be quite the accomplishment for the young outfielder.
