The quarterback situation for the Chicago Bears seemed to be trending in the direction for Case Keenum to start against the Philadelphia Eagles on “Monday Night Football” in week 3.
Caleb Williams is batting a hamstring strain. Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent was placed in the concussion protocol this week. Earlier in the week, Bagent was not in the building as he was in the protocol. He returned to the building on Friday, but did not practice.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Bears head coach Ben Johnson said on Saturday that Bagent is practicing.
“Bears QB Tyson Bagent has cleared concussion protocol and is practicing today ahead of Monday night’s game vs the Eagles,” Schefter posted on X.
(Update)
Per an update by Schefter, Bagent did not clear the concussion protocol, but has advanced in the protocol enough to return to practice.
“To update: Tyson Bagent has cleared the necessary steps to practice today,” Schefter wrote. “He has not officially cleared protocol and he is not officially ruled out of Monday night’s game.”

It remains to be seen if Bagent will get the start against the Eagles with such a short time to practice before Monday night. Williams has not been ruled out. If he cannot play, the Bears will have Keenum and undrafted rookie Miller Moss available.
Earlier this week, Keenum told reporters he was prepared to start against the Eagles.
“I feel very prepared,” Keenum said. “I’ve backed up a long time in this league. If my name’s called, I’m excited to be out there.”
“I tell you what, I love the feeling of being nervous. I do get nervous, and it’s not a scared nervous; it’s an excited nervous, because I know I’m prepared, I’m confident in my preparation and what I’ve done,” he continued. “I feel little butterflies. But it’s because I care. I love this game, I love this team and this Texas boy, I love Chicago, I really do.”
With Bagent back to practice, there’s a possibility Keenum will not be the starter against the Eagles. Bagent is 2-2 as a starter with the Bears, playing in four games when Justin Fields dealt with an injury in 2023.
