NFL announces Chicago Bears punishment before Eagles game

It has been a challenging week for Tyrique Stevenson. The Chicago Bears cornerback saw the team lose 9-3 in Week 2 to the Minnesota Vikings and suffered a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter. The NFL also laid down the hammer by announcing a big fine on him.

Stevenson missed the first practice of the week and was a DNP on Thursday. However, reports indicate that he is set to play on Monday when the Bears host the Philadelphia Eagles at Soldier Field. He is coming off a solid game by locking up Justin Jefferson after giving up 30 yards in the second play.

Although his efforts weren’t enough to help lead his team to victory, Stevenson bounced back strong. He allowed 77 yards and two touchdowns the season opener versus the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium.

Chicago Bears: Tyrique Stevenson receives hefty fine from the NFL

The NFL released its Week 2 accountability list on Saturday. Stevenson will need to pay a $22,342 for “unnecessary roughness — use of the helmet.” It was for a tackle he made on Vikings running back Aaron Jones that knocked off helmet. The league reviewed the play and decided that the 26-year-old will receive a punishment, despite no flag thrown after the play.

Chicago is 1-1 to start the season and will face the Eagles without its starting quarterback, Caleb Williams. Like Stevenson, he also sustained a hamstring injury in the same period and exited the field. His backup, Tyson Bagent, is also in danger of missing the Week 3 matchup due to concussion symptoms.

The situation leaves Ben Johnson and his coaching staff likely naming Case Keenum as the QB1. Miller Moss will back him and potentially a non-quarterback as the emergency QB. Philadelphia is visiting Chicago with a perfect 2-0 record following wins over the Washington Commanders and Tennessee Titans.
