The Chicago Bears are preparing for what they expect to be a fierce matchup against the New York Jets. But is is still not known who will be under center.

Normally, Caleb Williams would obviously be starting. But a hamstring strain is expected to keep him out for an indefinite amount of time. Still, head coach Ben Johnson refused to rule him out just yet.

More likely, Tyson Bagent or Case Keenum will earn the start. Keenum just led the Bears to a 27-7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3. But Bagent is still QB2 on the depth chart and is now fully recovered from his concussion.

Johnson has a plan in place when it comes to the Week 4 quarterback. But he isn’t planning on revealing them just yet.

Still early in the week, the Bears don’t want to show the Jets their hand just yet. Furthermore, Chicago needs to see how both players perform at practice. Once Johnson and company feel confident about a starter, the Week 4 decision will be made, via the head coach’s Tuesday press conference.

“We’ve got three guys. We’ll work through the week and see where they are at,” Johnson said. “I feel really good about all three quarterbacks in that room. I know all three can win ball games for us.”

In terms of what the Bears are looking for, Johnson kept it blunt and said, “Whoever we feel like gives us the best chance to win.” Even less specifically, the head coach said Chicago will be evaluating, “everything.”

With so much mystery surrounding the decision, Chicago’ quarterback will dominate discussion leading up to Week 4. Whoever gets the nod, Johnson feels confident in their success. As for when Bears fans will know who is starting…

“We’ll know on Sunday,” Johnson said.
