By winning the World Series, the Milwaukee Brewers have put a target on their back. Every other team in the league will want some of their current magic. That includes the Chicago White Sox, who successfully poached the Brewers front office.

The White Sox are hiring Matt Roffe as their next director of amateur scouting, via Scott Merkin of MLB.com. While what Roffe’s official duties are haven’t been finalized, the new addition is expected to be a lead voice in Chicago’s draft plans.

“Matt Roffe will be the new director of amateur scouting for the White Sox, a Major League source confirmed to MLB.com on Thursday,” Merkin wrote. “Roffe is not expected to be officially announced by the club until early next week.”

“While Roffe will be in charge of the White Sox amateur Draft moving forward, Getz has spoken previously about having a different level of responsibilities in filling this position,” he continued. “Roffe’s exact duties are yet to be determined.”

Chicago’s surprising playoff run in 2026 was led by their youth. Sam Antonacci, Sean Burke and Hagen Smith, among others all came to the South Side via the draft. The franchise recently selected top prospect Roch Cholowsky with the No. 1 pick. Now, it’s up to Roffe to ensure the White Sox’s prospect pipeline is always flush with talent.

Roffe had been the Brewers assistant director of amateur scouting since 2025. Previously, he was a manager and coordinator in scouting operations. In every role, the front office executive helped build Milwaukee into the powerhouse it is now.

In their lineup, the Brewers drafted Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell, Cooper Pratt and Sal Frelick. In the rotation, Jacob Misiorowski and Logan Henderson both joined the franchise via the draft. Milwaukee’s model, seeing as it just won the World Series, is one Chicago wants to follow.

Roffe will now have a major role in those plans. When the MLB Draft comes around, it’ll be his time to shine.
