There may not be a team in Major League Baseball more plagued by injuries to significant players than the Chicago Cubs. The majority of these, of course, have been suffered by the starting rotation. Currently, the Cubs have no less than four of the preferred starters on the injured list. What is more, they also have a couple back-end bullpen pitchers sidelined as well.
Despite these injuries, Chicago has been able to stay afloat in the National League Central Division. Over the weekend, they took two out of three games from the first-place Milwaukee Brewers, and currently sit 5.5 games back in second place.
Unfortunately, their weekend victories came at a cost.

While the Cubs were able to take two out of three games against the team that has plagued them the most over the last three seasons, they now are going forward without two more players: Matt Shaw and Ethan Roberts.
On Monday afternoon, it was reported that both of them are going on the injured list:
Another day, another injury update from the Cubs: Matt Shaw (left hand sprain) and Ethan Roberts (right forearm inflammation) are now on the IL. Kevin Alcántara and Gavin Hollowell have been recalled from Triple-A Iowa.

Shaw is going on the injured list with a right hand sprain. He is hitting .246/.322/.415 with four home runs and 20 RBI in 56 games played. Kevin Alcantara is taking his place on the active roster for the time being.
Roberts has right forearm inflammation. He is 0-2 with a 4.21 ERA in 23 appearances this season. Gavin Hollowell is taking his place in the bullpen.
