One of the biggest question marks the Chicago Bears have been trying to answer during training camp is who will be their starting left tackle. Ozzy Trapilo ruptured his pattelar tendon in January, and it was believed that he would miss most, if not all, of 2026.
Braxton Jones has not performed as well as the Bears had hoped in training camp, and there were some concerns that the offense would struggle without their preferred left tackle.
As it turns out, though, Trapilo may be back sooner rather than later.

When speaking to reporters today, Poles had an exciting update on Trapilo’s recovery. If all goes well, he could be back even before the season begins:
BIG INJURY UPDATE: #Bears LT Ozzy Trapilo isn’t just ahead of schedule, he could “potentially” return before the end of training camp.

“Yeah, we’ve talked about the different scenarios, whether he comes back and has a little bit of training camp or if he comes back in September. I think the big thing for us is padded practices. If you get too far down the line it’s really hard to get that physical practice that you need to prepare for games.
“So we’ve kind of looked at that on the calendar and want to map that out for him so he feels confident coming back. So yeah, we kind of map that out and hopefully he is able to capture some of those padded practices.”
He was then asked if training camp was still on the table, in terms of a return.
“Potentially,” Poles responded.
This would be a massive boost for Chicago’s offensive line. The left tackle position has been a concern all camp with Trapilo out. Having him protecting Caleb Williams’ blindside would go a long way to helping this offense accomplish all of their goals.
