Chicago Bears could have new quarterback for Eagles ‘MNF’ Game

With Caleb Williams unlikely to play against the Philadelphia Eagles as he recovers from a hamstring injury and Tyson Bagent in the concussion protocol, the Chicago Bears have Case Keenum in line to start with undrafted rookie Miller Moss as a potential backup option for Week 3’s “Monday Night Football” game.

Will the Bears look for another option to serve as an emergency quarterback in a pinch or to start on Monday night?

Bears head coach Ben Johnson told reporters earlier in the week that the team isn’t planning on bringing in outside help. However, Chicago could use Roschon Johnson as a new quarterback against the Eagles.

Per Courtney Cronin of ESPN, Johnson was recruited by Texas to be a quarterback before he switched to running back. Bears offensive coordinator Press Taylor confirmed that it’s a possibility that Johnson could play quarterback if needed.

“That’s a possibility, we have a couple different guys that would be a possibility in that role if that comes down to it,” Cronin posted on X. “And again, it’s determining how the numbers shake out on Monday night. But that’s part of the one of the things you see us do in the spring when we have all those skill guys throw, we put stock into that.

“I mean, those guys throw, we kind of have an idea who has a past of throwing, who’s played baseball, who played high school quarterback, all that stuff. And then we watch them throw, and then we kind monitor it throughout the year.”

Taylor said the Bears have done research on who can help in the passing game, noting who has played baseball or quarterback in high school.

Ideally, the Bears won’t turn to Johnson against Philadelphia, but Johnson could cook up a play or two to give the offense a boost without Williams on the field.
