Unwanted Kelsey Mitchell news emerges after Fever’s blowout loss

Kelsey Mitchell made WNBA history this season. She now owns the most consecutive regular-season games and in a single season with 20-plus points. However, and unwanted news emerged on Thursday following the Indiana Fever’s blowout loss to the Minnesota Lynx.

Mitchell and the team were already assured of a playoff berth entering the matchup. However, they still had a lot to play for, particularly their seed. With the defeat, the Fever dropped to No. 6 and will need to upset the No. 3 team in the first round to advance.

Indiana also lost some momentum as it lost two of its last three games. Mitchell and Co. were previously on a roll, winning eight of 10 before the recent stretch. The good news is they are healthy entering the postseason and ready to prove their doubters wrong.

Mitchell saw her 20-plus point scoring streak on Thursday. She finished with just 10 points on 3-of-12 shooting, along with two rebounds and one assist in 22 minutes. Minnesota dominated Indiana early, leading to an 86-66 victory.

The Fever struggled on offense throughout the game and converted just 25-of-73 field goal attempts. They also uncharacteristically gave up a lot of easy baskets, including fast breaks. Only Mitchell scored in double digits for her team. Head coach Stephanie White benched her starters for most of the second half and gave the reserves more run. Grace VanSlooten produced nine points, and two rebounds, while Monique Billings added six points and 10 rebounds.

However, the poor performance could fuel Mitchell and her teammates to bounce back once the playoffs start. They will have a chance to continue silencing their critics if they steal a game on the road early in the first round. It will put them in a good position to pull off an upset.
