Bears: Coby Bryant’s strong reaction to Dillon Thieneman’s first career INT

Coby Bryant remains away from the Chicago Bears as he recovers from knee surgery. However, he watches the team’s games to cheer for his teammates, including Dillon Thieneman, who recorded his first NFL interception on Monday.

Bryant suffered his injury during training camp and is set to miss four to six months. His absence opened the door for the rookie safety to have a bigger role, and he has not disappointed. Thieneman recorded 17 combined tackles in Weeks 1 and 2, consisting of six assisted and 11 solo efforts.

He entered the league as the No. 25 overall pick this year. The 22-year-old enjoyed a strong 2025 season with the Oregon Ducks, earning first-team All-American honors. He amassed 96 combined tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks and five pass deflections.

Bryant posted his reaction to Thieneman’s interception on X. The veteran expressed pride in what he did and expects more from him in the future.

Thieneman’s interception came with 6:21 left in the second quarter off Andy Dalton’s pass. The QB2 took over under center from Jalen Hurts after he briefly exited the game for concussion tests. Chicago took advantage in the next drive, scoring a field goal to extend its lead to 10-0. Hurts returned and led Philadelphia to a touchdown to end the first half 10-7.

Thieneman will continue to be relied upon heavily at safety as long as Bryant remains sidelined. His earliest return could be in Week 13 or 14, but the team will likely monitor his playing time closely. The rookie has a big chance to prove his worth and carve a key role in the defense. Monday’s performance further strengthened his case to take part in more snaps as the season progresses.
