Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears grabbed headlines on Thursday after pulling off a trade with the Tennessee Titans. They exchanged their 2027 and 2028 first-round selections and a 2027 fourth rounder for Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round draft pick. The four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle threw a jab at Caleb Williams in 2024. It was particularly about his nails, which he addressed on Friday.

Chicago is on a two-game winning streak, coinciding with the star quarterback’s return and his MVP-level play. He missed the three previous games due to the hamstring injury he sustained in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings. Williams completed 22-of-33 passes for 308 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in the 30-24 Week 7 win over the New England Patriots.

Meanwhile, Simmons’ addition will plug a hole on the D-line, which is widely considered as the Bears’ weak spot. He brings a lot of experience to the table and will likely emerge as one of the unit’s leaders.

Jeffery Simmons clarifies previous comments about Bears QB Caleb Williams

Simmons said two years ago that he would talk trash to Williams about his painted nails. However, he clarified on Friday that it was just part of smack talking and that he is excited to be his teammate.

“I’ve been a fan of Caleb,” Simmons said. “Of course, (I’ve) been on the other side having to play against (him). I’m not gonna tell him that I’m talking much smack. I can, but now he’s on my team. Any teammate you ask about me, man, I have my teammates back. No matter if he’s on the other side of the ball or not, I’m going to talk the most smack to you when you’ve got a different color jersey on. But when we’re on the same team on Sundays, I’ll go to war for any of my guys in the locker room.

“So I hope Caleb would know that. Them comments a couple years ago about the nails and whatnot, it’s all part of my game as well with the smack talk. I don’t know if you guys heard that. I’m probably one of the best smack talkers, and I talk a lot of smack when I’m on the field. So, like I said, I’m looking forward to being his teammate. ”

The Bears will be back in action on Monday when they visit the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field. Simmons will make his debut for the team and will be tasked to apply a lot of pressure on Sam Darnold and his unit.
