The Chicago Bears’ latest addition, Jeffery Simmons, will make his team debut on Monday. He addressed the media on Friday an had some strong words for head coach Ben Johnson and star quarterback Caleb Williams.
The four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle landed with the team following a trade with the Tennessee Titans two days earlier. It sent its 2027 and 2028 first-round selections and a 2027 fourth rounder. The team received Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round draft pick. He brings a lot of experience to the table and will likely emerge as one of the D-line’s leaders.
Chicago has won back-to-back games and is now 5-2 for the season. Williams missed three games due to a hamstring injury but has since delivered two consecutive MVP-level performances. He completed 22-of-33 passes for 308 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in Week 7 versus the New England Patriots.

Simmons expressed excitement to be part of what the Johnson is building in Chicago. He also talked about how potent Williams’ offense is and what he can contribute to the defense.
“You’re watching and you see the effort guys (are) playing where you see the strain,” Simmons said. “Scoring 70 points on the offensive side, what defensive lineman wouldn’t love that. To be able to just go out there and pin your ear back and go attack the line of scrimmage and get to the quarterback. When you see them type of things on the other side of the ball, when you score a point like that, that right there is an excitement for a defensive lineman like myself. Because when you got a team that have to drop back and pass, it’s like good luck. I told Grady today, like, if I’m getting that slide, I expect you to go win.
“Same with Montez. If the tacklers could hang on me, and you can’t get off the ball and go get a free sack, there’s something wrong. That’s just a first-day conversation that I’m having with these guys. Like I said, with the other side of the ball, I know they’re going to take care of what they got. And with Ben, being able to call them plays and score points, I’m excited for that. But what they’re building around here, man, is special, and I’m only here to help that.”
Jeffrey Simmons on Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson’s Culture:
“When you see the offense scoring points like that, that’s pure excitement for a defensive lineman-because when teams have to drop back and pass, good luck. Like I told Grady and Montez today, if I’m taking on a slide or double team, I expect them to go win and get a free sack. What they’re building around here is special, and I’m excited to do my part.”
