Bears HC Ben Johnson has words for Tyrique Stevenson after injury development

Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears are dealing with injuries to some of their key players. One of them is Tyrique Stevenson, who sustained a hamstring injury in the fourth against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2. The head coach addressed the veteran cornerback’s status ahead of Monday’s game versus the Philadelphia Eagles.
Stevenson endured a tough season opener, giving up 77 yards and two touchdown in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers. The good news is he bounced back strong while covering Justin Jefferson in last week’s 9-3 loss. The 26-year-old he locked him up after a 30-yard reception on the second play of the game.
The Miami Hurricanes product missed the first practice of the week and was a DNP on Thursday. However, he reportedly could see action against Jalen Hurts and Co.

Johnson addressed reporters on Saturday and praised Stevenson for his toughness. He also highlighted how his players are fighting to be on the active roster and play meaningful minutes.
“I think he’s a tough individual in general,” Johnson said. “I think he’s always been that way. And at least that’s how I know him. We joke around; it’s Miami tough. It was fortunate to be down there for seven years. So I do think there’s something in the water down there. Guys are a little bit different in terms of how they’re brought up. So it’s good. I said it at the end of training camp, we have a roster full of guys that are fighting to be on that grass, the field and help their teammates win, so that’s a good thing.”

The Bears will play without Caleb Williams, who also suffered a hamstring injury last week. Chicago could name Case Keenum as the QB1 for Monday, as Williams’ backup, Tyson Bagent, is questionable.
